Building a more private internet experience with Privacy One Group

We believe a more private internet is better, and that you deserve the option to search the internet while keeping your personal data private. To help bring true search privacy to more people, Privacy One Group Ltd has invested in Startpage.com, the world’s first and most private search engine. Privacy One Group and Startpage’s relationship started in January 2019 and, after transitional planning and alignment, the teams are excited to announce their joint mission to deliver more privacy options to the world. Startpage will continue to be headquartered and operated in the Netherlands, ensuring all of our users worldwide are protected by Dutch and EU privacy laws. Both Startpage and Privacy One Group are passionately driven by the mission of providing quality, unbiased search results while respecting online privacy and never storing consumer data.

Startpage stands apart from the broader search engine community through its user privacy focused mission of not storing any personal data: no IP addresses, no personal user data, no search history, no tracking cookies… In short, nothing relating to you or your web searches is stored by Startpage. While other search engines stop protecting you once you click to another website, Startpage’s proprietary “Anonymous View” feature enables you to continue to browse in private by viewing websites linked from Startpage’s search results with true privacy for as long as you like.

Startpage has a fascinating story and a long operating history starting in the late ‘90s through to its renaissance in 2017 after merging with Ixquick, another highly-regarded private search engine. Over its 20-year history, Startpage has become the standard bearer for private online search. One of Startpage’s key differentiators from other private search engines is that we partner with Google for our results. We know you want to spend less time searching, and more time finding!

Privacy One Group is a separate operating unit of System1, focused entirely on user privacy.

Startpage has created a “win-win” for internet users in the truest sense by offering personal privacy combined with the best search results on the web. With additional resources from Privacy One Group, Startpage plans to build more comprehensive product offerings and improved user experiences. We are so excited by the opportunity to continue to champion and innovate in support of personal privacy, and the right for people to choose what and when to share when browsing the web.
